Children interested in acting may need help from their parents to start their acting careers. Besides assisting them emotionally and supporting them throughout this project, parents are typically responsible for most things child actors need to start in this world. Every actor needs at least four things to start their career: an acting résumé, headshots, a demo reel, and audition materials. For instance, headshots are 8x10-inch color photos that casting directors use to get candidates' first impression for a role. For a child, who grows fast and needs to update headshots frequently, high-quality portraits taken on a smartphone may be sufficient. When it comes to creating a résumé for beginning child actors, professional experience may be sparse. However, that is typically not a problem. Instead, experts advise parents to include their child’s unique skills, sports or physical activities, hobbies, personality traits and strengths, and services to the community. As a video compilation of the child’s best on-screen performances, a demo reel is not required for most beginning child actors. However, after they get some experience, parents should compile three to five clips to boost their child's chances of earning a role. Lastly, it is good for the child to have memorized parts of a song and two short monologs. This way, they have some material ready for auditions.
